• Question: what were they typical grades that you needed to get into the top university?

      Well funnily enough when I was applying to university your grades actually didn’t have to be that high. That’s just because there was not a lot of competition to get onto the physics course. You needed the highest grades (AAA) to do things like law because that’s what everyone wanted to do. For physics you only needed Bs and Cs if I remember correctly.

      That’s different if you want to go to Oxford or Cambridge, you’ll need straight As for that.

      Just checking now what you need at Sheffield University where I studied…right now to get onto the course at Sheffield you need ABB. That’s partly because it’s a really popular university. The most popular ones have the highest grades because of the highest competition for places. I think Manchester might even have AAA now as well.
