• Question: Why did you become a lecturer as well as researcher?

      The best way to learn about something is to teach it. You feel like a complete idiot standing in front of 200 students giving a lecture and suddenly realising you don’t REALLY understand what you are talking about – happens every now and again to me-ask you teacher too!
      Being a lecturer is normally the way in UK universities that you get a permanent job – its hard to get a job just doing research in a uni, so most of us do a bit of teaching and administration too. I love teaching, and find it helps to give me ideas to explain things, and to see problems in new ways
