There’s usually a reason – one of my friends has alopecia which is a disease which makes your hair fall out – various hormones can do it too – so men rather than women go bald early quite often (ha! not me much) and of course chemotherapy can affect your cells -killing off the rapidly growing ones like cancers, but also hair follicles

      Hey rarr,

There will be an explanation – it’s just that sometimes we don’t understand what it is. Many men lose their hair as they get older: my pate is thinning a little – according to my kids. (I can’t see it but am beginning to feel it). But my younger brother (brown, not ginger like me) is almost completely bald. It’s to do with hormones I believe but I don’t know why.

Unexpected hair loss can be brought on by stress I believe. The TV presenter Gail Porter, unusually for a woman, went bald a few years ago but her hair is now growing back. I think that might have been stress related.

I think constantly losing hair and skin is a totally normal part of being a human!

This is called “alopecia” and there can be lots of different reasons. Of course when there’s no explanation, there’s no way to answer the question “why”. I think I have heard of cases like this. I think I would consult a doctor if this happened to me, just in case.
