Hi Maya – It can be bad for a number of different reasons (though there are some good things about TV).

For one, it is just too easy to keep lounging on the sofa watching telly even when there is nothing on that is so very interesting. You would be better to get up and go and do something different – play a game or read a book.

The other bad thing is that it makes us rather sedentary. In other words, it encourages us to sit there like a potato and do no exercise. It is very important to exercise to have a relatively healthy lifestyle and, especially, to help keep your heart in good working order.

But who am I to talk – I watch way too much telly (especially now that the World cup is on!)

I think that TV is, on the whole, a good thing and I really enjoy certain programmes – the problem is that it is very easy to slobberate in front of the box, and not get up and do things – physical exercise suffers clearly when kids spend 6 hours per day glued to Hollyoaks. There is also a lack of interactivity – with a book for example you are creating your own inner world all the time, and it doesn’t seem to be the case with TV which is a much more passive pastime

I like TV but I try not to watch too much (especially reality TV, which I find addictive).

      My reasons are:
Because you sit still in the same place, without doing exercise.
Because you are having thoughts and ideas piped into your head, rather than seeking them out for yourself.
Because a lot of what is shown on TV is not very good IMHO – I like to exert a bit of quality control.
