I would certainly be prepared to do things like that. I have already gone into primary and secondary schools (though mainly the ones that my children attended) to give talks and help with experiments.
In one class, we managed to grow crystals of proteins, which we need be able to do to work out what the protein looks like using X-ray crystallography. There’s more of an explanation of this in the video mentioned in my profile.
Yes. It’s sometimes difficult to fit this sort of thing in with my other work, but I really enjoy it and I also think its a very important part of being a scientist – that’s why I wanted to be in this contest.
Yup – I really enjoy doing this already, and have been involved in a couple great events in local schools, various science fairs and a lot of lectures/demonstrations. Its always great fun to meet pupils especially those who are already excited by science. Getting over how exciting science is is a big part of why I like it
